OpenOffice.org – Don’t let MS Squeeze Your Wallet!

You, like me, are probably still looking for a Microsoft Word free download. OpenOffice.org is a free, open source office suite. The software is free to download and updates every two years. It is very similar in features to MS Office, in that it has word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and drawing applications included.

OpenOffice.org has a no frills, streamlined interface. It forgoes the color menus, giving the user a clean and easy to navigate work space.

The operation of both the word processing and spreadsheet applications are very similar to MS Office. The word processing application is very easy to use and flexible. They also have the same features. Spreadsheets are also very similar in OpenOffice.org. The formulas are mostly the same format used in MS Excel.

OpenOffice.org gives you the option to export files as PDFs, which adds to its use for professional writers. The only significant drawback from using OpenOffice.org is sharing files with computers that use MS Office. While you can save a file in MS Office formats, they generally have formatting issues when you try to open them in Office.

One thing, other than cost, that sets OpenOffice.org apart is its enthusiastic user base that is eager to share both ideas on how to use the application and templates.

Considering the price, OpenOffice.org is a winner.
